Our Story

Peru is a country shaped by striking contrasts—from the Pacific coast to the Andes and the Amazon. Its history is visible in places such as Machu Picchu, in the precision of Inca stonework, and in traditions that remain part of daily life. I traveled there in 2026 to experience the country for myself, visiting historic and sacred sites, hiking through the mountains, and exploring its towns and markets.

In the markets, the textiles stood out to me—the materials, colors, and skilled work behind each piece. It was there that I first encountered baby alpaca. I had never heard of it as a textile fiber and was surprised by its softness, silky luster, and warmth without heaviness.

I bought two shawls and brought them home to Houston. Whenever I wore them, I received compliments and questions about the material and where they had been made. Most people had never heard of baby alpaca, just as I had not before visiting Peru.

Their interest encouraged me to learn more about alpaca fiber, Peruvian textile production, and the makers who preserve these skills through generations of work. I saw an opportunity to introduce baby alpaca to the U.S. market while creating a direct relationship with a small workshop and supporting the local people behind each piece.

That idea became LS Alpaca: a connection between Peru and Houston, beginning with one timeless piece—the shawl.

We work directly with a small workshop that employs skilled Peruvian makers and preserves generations of textile knowledge. Each shawl is woven from 100% baby alpaca fiber and carefully finished by experienced hands. Attention is given to the balance of the weave, the softness of the surface, the fluidity of the drape, and the finishing of the edges and fringe. These quiet details determine how the shawl feels, falls, and endures over time. By working closely with one workshop, we remain connected to the people behind every piece and maintain a consistent standard from one collection to the next. The finished shawls then travel to Houston, where each one is received, inspected, and prepared for its new owner.
